Join Our Choir
Welcome to Willoughby Symphony Choir, founded in 1973 and one of Australia's finest community choirs. You will have a very enjoyable time singing and making fine music with us. Our choir exists under the auspices of Willoughby City Council and is partnered with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra with whom we perform regularly. Auditions are held regularly throughout the year.
Auditions involve the singing of one song demonstrating voice range, and some simple music skills tests. Should you be successful at audition, you will be expected to participate in the concert currently in preparation. Fill in our application form (link below) to apply for an audition to join our wonderful choir.
The choir rehearses each Wednesday evening from 7.30 – 10.00pm. at the Uniting Church Hall, Lord Street, Roseville. Each rehearsal has a 15-minute social tea break, and suppers are arranged after rehearsals periodically. A break is taken over the Christmas / New Year period. Extra rehearsals may be required on some Saturdays and /or Sundays. These are usually held in the Joe Ciantar Music Room Chatswood (at the rear of 9 Help Street).
Every year the choir performs at least two major concerts with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and two major concerts of our own. In addition, we perform some regular gigs in conjunction with Willoughby Council Events Unit, such as Carols in the Park, and the Willoughby Spring Fair. We also try to accept invitations from outside organisations to perform at their events, e.g. Lions' Club charity.
Every performance is important and we encourage all members to participate in as many of these as they can. There is an annual membership fee which must be paid in full. Fees are payable for the whole year regardless of how much or how little you sing. A refundable Music Deposit is charged to cover damage to or loss of musical scores. You should pay the Membership Fee within one month of joining the choir, and thereafter each year by the end of March at the latest. You must be financial to sing in any concert and to vote at the AGM.
